Upcycling Old Books: Journal Ephemera

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

Starting a series on ways to upcycle books. Don’t get me wrong, I think books are amazing enough as they are. But if you’re like me and you have somehow accumulated old books or extra ones that you don’t need, have tried giving away, or even selling to no avail, why not repurpose them for something else, right?

I used to see different ways people repurpose old books and a part of me felt scandalized at the vandalism and mutilation. Ha. But I do have a few books that have somehow been added to my collection and some that I have purposely saved from impending doom from others for this very purpose. I assure you, I don’t go around harming books. 😂

I should start out by either using label/frame stamps I have and stamping them haphazardly on the pages, or you can also rip the pages to your desired shape. Decorate them with distressed edges, stickers, washi tape, and whatever else. You can also use them as is or use them as a base for your junk journal creations!

Here is a quick reel showing how I create these junk journal ephemera.

Tell me, what’s your favorite way of upcycling old books?
